How to Upload an iMovie Video to Google Drive

Uploading an iMovie video to Google Drive is easy! All you need to prepare is a computer (or your iPhone/iPad), the iMovie app, Internet connection, an active Google account, and a few minute’s time.

I’m Jerry, a video editing enthusiast with 10+ years of experience using all types of video editing software, iMovie is my go-to tool for creating and editing simple clips. And I know the ins and outs of most cloud-based storage solutions including Google Drive.

In this article, I’m going to show you a step-by-step guide on how to upload your iMovie video to Google Drive!

Stay tuned and I’ll walk you through how it’s done.

Note: the instructions and screenshots below are taken from iMovie for Mac. If you are using iMovie on your iPhone or iPad, they will be different but should be similar.

Step 1: In the menu bar, move your mouse and click File > Share > File….

Step 2: At this point, you should see a pop-up window. Click Next and you’ll be prompted to choose where you want the video saved. Once you’ve decided, press Save

Step 3: You’ll know your video is successfully downloaded when you see “Share Successful” on the top right corner of your screen. Now press Show to access your saved video.

Step 4: Open https://drive.google.com/ on your browser and sign in with your Google account. If you don’t have one already, you will need to sign up for one.

Step 5: Once you’ve signed in, click the + New button underneath the Drive logo.

Then select the 2nd option “File Upload” and you should see a pop-up window.

Step 6: Find and select the video you want to upload. A box will show up on the lower right corner informing you that your video is uploading.

Step 7: Once your video is successfully uploaded, you should see a green check with a message called “Upload complete”.

That is all. Now when you go to “My Drive”, you should be able to see your video.

How to Share Videos on Google Drive with Other People?

To share a video with other people, simply right click on your video to view a list of options. Click Share.

You will find that your link is restricted. Change the sharing option by clicking anywhere in the Get link box.

You will see a list of options pop up. Click Anyone with the link to make your link visible to others.

Copy the new link and share it with other people.

Final Words

Unlike other video editing software, iMovie doesn’t have this feature that allows you to directly upload/export a video to Google Drive. So you have to save the file to your device first, then upload it to Google Drive later on.

Nevertheless, the process is super easy and quick as long as your Internet connection speed is not too slow. If you have any further questions, feel free to drop a comment down below and I will gladly help you!
